Taiping Houkui
Chinese Green Tea

Our Taiping Houkui is harvested from large-leaf tea plants on the slopes of the Huangshan Mountain range. Two leaves and a bud are plucked before being pressed and baked to produce a large, paper-thin tea leaf with a light and fresh flavour. This tea has very little astringency and a light, buttery sweetness that's a little more pronounced than many other Chinese green teas.

One of China's most prized teas

Skilled harvesters choose only the finest two leaf and bud leaves, but process this tea without the traditional rolling.

After being straightened and heated, each leaf is hand-sorted, delicately twisted, laid on a mesh and pressed with a roller until flat.

The leaves are roasted until dry and then given 24-48 hours to 'rest'. They are then individually laid over bamboo and roasted again to finish the tea.

The end result is a large, flat leaf with a mesh print and subtle red stems and veins.
